The scientific conference “Folklore motives and mythologism in Mirza Fatali Akhundzade’s activity” was held at the Institute of Folklore
On the 22nd of November in 2022 on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of Mirza Fatali Akhundzade, a scientific conference on the theme “Folklore motives and mythologism in Mirza Fatali Akhundzade’s activity” was held at the Institute of Folklore of ANAS. General Director of the institute, academician Mukhtar Kazimoglu-Imanov opened the conference with the introduction speech. During his speech the academician described M.F.Akhundzade as a great enlightener, philosopher, playwright who laid the foundation of a new stage in the history of Azerbaijani literature, a great artist who combined Eastern and Western culture in his work. The scientist also spoke about the elements of folklore and myth in M.F.Akhundzade’s activity and mentioned about the various aspects of the issue.
After the opening speech of the academician the reports were made by the different scientists. Associate professor Leyla Mammadova made a speech on the theme “Folklore motifs as a criterion of modernity of Mirza Fatali Akhundzade”.
In the plenary session the report called “National identity and cultural institution in the comedies of Mirza Fatali Akhundzade” was also made by PhD, associate professor Agaverdi Khalil. He drew attention to M.F.Akhundzade’s important place and role in the history of Azerbaijani literature and public opinion and spoke about the embodiment of national identity values in his work. At the end A.Khalil mentioned the importance of studying M.F.Akhundzade’s literary heritage in connection with folklore and traditional culture. At the event Executive Director of ANAS Folklore Institute, PhD, associate professor Afag Ramazanova made a speech about M.F.Akhundzade and mentioned that he was the founder of realist criticism in Azerbaijani literature. His works, specifically his comedies, will always remain relevant as they are related to our everyday life.
After the opening meeting the scientific conference on the theme “Folklore motifs and mythologism in Mirza Fatali Akhundzade’s activity” continued its work in two sections.
At the meeting of the first section the reports such as “Folk wisdom in the Mirza Fatali Akhundzade’s activity” by PhD Aposh Valiyev, “Mythological elements in Mirza Fatali Akhundzade’s works” by PhD Gulnar Osmanova, “Folklorism in the dramaturgy of Mirza Fatali Akhundzade” by PhD Gulsumkhanim Hasilova were made.
At the meeting of the second section the reports such as “Folklore specifics in the work “Deceived stars” by Mirza Fatali Akhundzade” by PhD, associate professor Atif Islamzade, “Mirza Fatali Akhundzade as an artist who ensures the connection of folk literature with written literature” by PhD, associate professor Sevinj Aliyeva, “The image of a greedy man in Mirza Fatali Akhundzade’s activity and our folk tales” by Khayala Agayeva, “Shaman and shaman ceremony in Mirza Fatali Akhundzade’s work” by Aygul Gurbanova were made.
