Beginning its activity in 2013 the activity sphere of the department are to collect, publish and investigate Southern Azerbaijan folklore, to define its problems as scientific themes, to save protection of traditions of racemates living in Southern Azerbaijan and to serve on the field of cultural development etc.
The leadership of the department is assigned to Matanat Mashallah gizi Abbasova, the doctor of philosophy on philology. M.M.Abbasova was born on the 8th of November in 1974 in Fuzulu. In 1991 she entered the faculty of philology at Baku State University named after M.A.Rasulzade, graduated from the same uni versity with honours diploma in 1996. Durung 1994-2001 years she worked as a teacher at Nakhchivan University. In 1997 she entered the post graduate course at ANAS Institute of Literature, in 2005 she defended the thesis on the subject “A literary symbol in a clasical Azerbaijan story”. During 2003-2010 years she worked as a head teacher in the chair of Humanitarian Subject at Azerbaijan International University. From 2010 she worked as a senior scientific researcher at the Institute of Folklore of ANAS. She is an author of a monography, two collection-compiling books, numerous articles.
