The article “Psychoanalytic approach to the image of Molla Nasreddin” by PhD Hikmat Guliyev was published in Journal of Ethnography and Folklore which is included in Web of Science.
In the article the author analyzes the image of Molla Nasreddin in the psychoanalytic context on the basis of anecdotes collected from Azerbaijan and other Turkic peoples. For the first time, the scientist has investigated the metaphorical materials, legends, myths, beliefs, applause, etc., which allowed a deeper etiological analysis of the essence of the ridiculous behavior in the nature of the image of Molla Nasreddin.
In the research the psychogenesis of the image of Molla Nasreddin was carried out by analyzing numerous text variants of the narration “Sheikh’s goat”, which explains the logic of the transformation of this image into a ridiculous hero.
It is noted that such epithets about the image of Mullah Nasreddin sourced from his sacred-mystical nature in the tradition. It is also determined that the character of Molla Nasreddin, formed on the basis of such qualities as wisdom and stupidity, intelligence and ignorance, honesty and deceit, embodies the oppositional nature of his nature.
In the article, the psychogenesis of the paradox in the nature of the image of Molla Nasreddin is studied on the basis of its whole essence in the cultural tradition, different interpretations expressed in different emotions and discourses.
Emphasizing that social stereotypes lived and transmitted through folklore have become relevant in the context of laughter, the author noted that the image of Molla Nasreddin (generally anecdotes), which is still alive and involved in new creative processes, is “special” for the performance of psychological complexes and conflicts. It is no coincidence that the image of Molla Nasreddin is one of the most widespread and most popular heroes of Internet folklore, as well as virtual anecdotes.
