The scientific conference dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Abdurrahim Bey Hagverdiyev was held at the Institute of Folklore
On the 19th of June the Institute of Folklore of ANAS held an online scientific conference “From folklore to written literature: laughter and sorrow” dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the prominent representative of Azerbaijani literature, well-known public figure Abdurrahim Bey Hagverdiyev.
The event was organized within the framework of the Action Plan of ANAS in connection with the execution of the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated January 31, 2020 “On celebrating the 150th anniversary of Abdurrahim Bey Hagverdiyev”.
Opening the online conference, director of the Institute of Folklore, academician Mukhtar Imanov mentioned the look at the life and activity of the outstanding writer and gave information about oral folk poetry and folklore, especially about folk humor. He said that Abdurrahim Bey Hagverdiyev used the people’s laughter in his own way: “On the one hand, reflecting the laughter with tears and sorrow, the writer focused on the painful problems of society, on the other hand, he was able to show the complexity of the human character, contradictions of the human character”.
Later Doctor of Philology Islam Sadig made report on the theme “Laughter in tears (On the basis of Hagverdiyev’s works)”. He described the laughter in the works of the writer as a revealing, “a smile in tears” directed against ignorance and human malice. At the event Doctor of Philology Matanat Abbasova made report on the theme “Hagverdiyev’s story activity and artistic symbol” and spoke about the reasons for the wide appeal of the writer to religious-mythological characters. PhD Gulnar Osmanova made report on the theme “The influence of folklore on the poetics of Hagverdiyev’s stories” and mentioned about the folklore characters, motives and plot, generally folklore poetics, ideas, composition, plot, etc. in the stories by A. Hagverdiyev.
In addition, PhD. Aytaj Abbasova made report on the theme “The mythological semantics of characters in the art work “Peri-jadu” by A.Hagverdiyev. The reporter spoke about the reasons of the writer’s appeal to religious-mythological characters, as well as their artistic function in the work. They exchanged views on the reports. Academician Mukhtar Imanov, corresponding member of ANAS Kamran Aliyev, PhD Aynur Ibrahimova also participated.
