The event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ashiq Shakir was held at the Institute of Folklore
On the 22nd of December in 2022 the event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ashiq Shakir Hajiyev was held at the Folklore Institute of ANAS. The event, jointly organized by the department of Music Folklore of the Institute and the “IZ” Public Union for the Development of Culture, began with the presentation of Tofig Abdullayev’s book “Look for Ashiq Shakir in the hearts”. At the event academician Mukhtar Kazimoglu-Imanov, General Director of the Institute of Folklore, made an introductory speech and characterized Ashiq Shakir as one of the greatest representatives of Azerbaijani ashiq art of the 20th century.
The academician mentioned that Ashiq Shakir was a powerful folk artist distinguished by his unique beautiful voice, who conquered the highest peaks of “saz” performance, as well as mastered the pearls of classical ashiq literature before him and conveyed them to the people: “Ashiq Shakir is one of our master ashiqs, who managed great parties and kept alive the traditions of storytelling. It is very difficult to name an artist a master of ashiq art if he does not tell epic stories or manages great parties”.
Mukhtar Kazımoglu-Imanov added to his thoughts that the Shirvan ashiq environment has an extremely different set of lines and in this environment ashiq art has acquired unique qualities by meeting mugham performance. Mukhtar Kazımoglu-Imanov said that although Shakir Goychaylı got lessons from Ashiq Mursal, he is considered a student of Mirza Bilal’s school. Ashiq Bilal was not an ordinary ashiq, he was an artist who lived with the thinking of the Republic period and had a national consciousness.
Then the head of the department of Music Folklore of the Folklore Institute, professor Naila Rahimbeyli noted that the book written by Tofig Abdullayev was a new contribution to the study of the work of Ashiq Shakir, a prominent representative of Azerbaijani ashiq art. She mentioned that the book was about the life and creativity of ashiq, unique artistic features and its role in the development of ashiq art.
The author of the book Tofig Abdullayev said that he spent twenty years of his life in the creation of this work and the opinions of famous Azerbaijani science, culture, literature, art and statesmen about Ashiq Shakir. Bulbul, Aliagha Vahid, Zulfu Adigozalov, Khan, Alibaba Mammadov, Vasim Mammadaliyev, academician Ziyad Samadzade, Professor Gazanfar Pashayev and many other scientists and artists’ writings about Shakir are presented to the readers.
